A New Aje

Last week I was invited to attend the VIP Launch Party for the new Aje store at Westfield Carindale.

Aje is fast becoming one of my favourite labels. All of their pieces are so delicately crafted with amazing attention to fine details, like their signature hand sewn sequin designs. A little piece of Aje will cost you a pretty penny but it's well worth it, they're definitely investment pieces - they're high quality and stunning wardrobe classics you'll keep coming back to.

For the night I decided to wear my own little Aje treasure, the gorgeous corsair sequinned top (old season but you can still find it online at Maximillia and Joy Hysteric), which I'm finding hard to resist wearing every time I go out.

The night consisted of a little instore party complete with live music, punch, photographers, a visit from the designers, and a VIP discount for all the Aje lovers in attendance! I tried on a few of their new pieces and am now totally lusting over the roaming free skirt and the scarlet cropped top. Definitely adding them to the Christmas wishlist.

Revival

red leather skirt, cropped denim vest, Romance Was Born denim vest, embellished vest, bat top, fashion blogger red skirt

As you may have read in my previous post, I scored this sweet little Romance Was Born embellished vest at The Diva's Wardrobe on Sunday. In the spirit of sustainable fashion, for the afternoon of shopping I'd decided to sport my favourite family hand-me-down, this gorgeous bright red leather skirt which used to belong my Aunt. I'd paired it with my all time favourite Batman crop (an oldie but a goodie), and then when I tried on the denim vest it just looked like I'd been planning the purchase all along! It was the perfect addition to my outfit (and my wardrobe).

My Secondhand Style:
Romance Was Born cropped denim vest (old season) secondhand from The Diva's Wardrobe
Lazy Oaf Batman mesh crop top (old season) (similar available from Urban Outfitters)
Vintage red leather skirt (similar available from Nasty Gal)
Vagabond Dioon chunky black sandals (similar available from Market HQ)

Feline Feelin'

grey leopard print jumper, grey leopard print sweater, tiger socks, cheap monday form oxfords, cheap monday flatform orxfords, blue platform oxfords,

I've been on the look out for a leopard print piece for quite some time, but with a print that can so easily turn tacky, it's been no easy feat.
I found this little gem of a sweater at Glassons. I love the large scale and spaced out style of the print - keeps it bold and graphic without looking cheap; plus it's super comfy and goes with everything! Too bad winter seems to be calling it quits a little early here in Brisbane (it's meant to be 30°C tomorrow!). Hopefully I can sneak in a few more wears if I bare some leg and go for shorts and skirts.

cheap monday form oxfords, cheap monday flatform orxfords, blue platform oxfords,

I decided to keep it in the feline family with my choice of socks today and went for these fierce tiger socks from Topshop! I'm obsessed with their never ending range of crazy socks and these are the perfect $4.50 solution to the Kenzo induced tiger trend. I love them!

Although I've been buying new shoes at a rate of about 1 pair per week lately (and I really should slow down), I couldn't resist these gorgeous blue Cheap Monday flatform oxfords. I snagged them for just $30 (!!!) at the Blonde Venus / The Outpost stockroom sale on Friday, and I loved them so much I went back and bought a second pair in black today! They're versatile, comfy, and perfect for the vertically challenged (like myself).

Back to Basics

So lately I've been thinking my wardrobe needs a little taming. For a while now I've been a bit (okay, a lot) obsessed with items that are a touch wacky - crazy cuts, crazy prints, crazy colours. If people were staring, my outfit was a success.

But in all the craziness, things got kind of messy. There's nothing wrong with looking a little out-there, but making sure there's a certain level of polish to an outfit makes all the difference.

To that end, I went in search of sophisticated yet simple designs - clean lines, blacks, whites, basics. And this is what I found.

As much as a love a good print clash, sometimes you just need simple pieces to pair with those outrageous prints so they can really pop. I'm looking forward to seeing what new life these basics can breathe in to my wackier wardrobe veterans!
